Born June 13, 1998, Cheboksary.

 

 

Postgraduate student at the Department of Ancient and Mediaeval Philosophy and Science, Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

 

 

Education:

 

2017-2022: BA degree at the Institute for Oriental and Classical Studies of the Russian State University for the Humanities.

 

2022-2024: MA degree at Department of Ancient Languages and Ancient Christian Writing, Faculty of Theology of St. Tikhon's Orthodox University for the Humanities.

 

2024-present. Postgraduate program at the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

 

MA Thesis: "Gnoseology of Kallistos Angelikoudes: his method and teaching on the intellect."

 

 Fields of research: 

  • Byzantine philosophy and theology,

  • Eastern Christianity,

  • Medieval philosophy,

  • Anti-Latin polemics in Byzantium,

  • Hesychastic disputes,

  • Late Antiquity.

Language proficiency

  • Ancient Greek, Latin, English, Italian, French, Modern Greek.

 Teaching

  • Since 2021 S. Nikolaev has been teaching Ancient Greek and Latin.

Editorial work

  • In 2023, S. Nikolaev participated in a joint project of St. Tikhon's Orthodox University for the Humanities and the Renovabis Foundation (Germany) to publish the Complete works of St. Augustine in Russian (verification of the translation from Latin, editing of the 3rd volume of the Complete Works (De Genesi ad litteram (I. 9–12) and Annotationes in Iob).

Other research activities

  • In 2024, as an assistant, S. Nikolaev participated in the state research project No. FMZF-2023-0001 “Old Russian Toropets and its environs” of the Institute of the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Awards and scholarship

  • In 2023-2024, S. Nikolaev received a scholarship named after St. Philaret of Moscow.
