In the Institute of Philosophy there are working at the present time more than 280 academic collaborators, among whom are many famous scholars of world class, including nine fellows of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The fact that they all work as a single academic team and form a single collaborative academic society makes the Institute unique among philosophical institutions.
The activities of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences have won it a broad recognition not only in Russia, but also abroad, where many works of the Institute’s research fellows are published each year. The international contacts of the Institute have expanded most impressively during the last few decades, the closest at present being its cooperation with philosophers in the USA, Germany, France, Finland, India, Iran, and China. The Institute is a member of the International Federation of Philosophical Societies.
The Institute of Philosophy is involved in large-scale research projects in cooperation with some of the leading foreign universities, such as Paris-8 and Paris-10 (France), Oxford and Brunel Universities (Britain), Marburg and Karlsruhe Universities (Germany), Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Ohio State University (USA), Beijing University (China), etc.
Among the world renowned philosophers who have been guests of the Institute and taken part in its projects one can name Evandro Agazzi, Jacques Derrida, Thomas Kuhn, Hans Lenk, K. Satchidananda Murty, Jean-Luc Nancy, Paul Ricœur, Richard Rorty, Jean-Paul Sartre, Jürgen Habermas, Jaakko Hintikka, Vittorio Hösle, D.P. Chattopadhyaya, and also outstanding natural scientists, such as Nobel Prize winners I.R. Prigogine, Roger Sperry, Hermann Haken (one of the founders of synergetics) and others.
