The Centre was established in 2004 for promotion of interdisciplinary research in philosophy, science, intellectual history and culture of Antiquity and the Middle Ages, and for consolidation of the research efforts of specialists from various fields of knowledge. The Centre works on the basis of the Department for Ancient and Mediaeval Philosophy and Science. The Centre works in cooperation with scholars from various academic and educational institutions of Moscow, St.Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Tula, Paris, Toronto.

The Director is Vladimir Malakhov, Professor of Political Studies, PhD, the leading scientific associate at the Institute of Philosophy of Russian Academy of Science, Professor at the Faculty of Sociology and Political Science of The Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences (MSSES).
The Executive Director is Svetlana Ilyinskaya, PhD, senior scientific associate at the Institute of Philosophy of Russian Academy of Science.
