The spectrum of anthropological doctrines. (The spectrum of anthropological doctrines). Issue 5 / Ed.-in-chief P.S. Gurevich. – М.: IPhRAS, 2013. – 167 p. – ISBN 978-5-9540-0235-5.

The monograph is designed to analyze the fate of philosophical anthropology and to designate its actual role in the system of modern humanitarian knowledge. The complexity of this problem lies in the fact that the conception of the «voidness» of philosophical anthropological knowledge has become widespread in the past years. The book continues the development of the theme of man in the German classical tradition, analyzes anthropological problems in post-modernism, specifies the methodological principles of philosophical anthropology.

Philosophical understanding of human nature in European philosophy has radically changed in the past years. Decisive transformation of old views is conditioned, first of all, by discoveries in the field of medicine and natural sciences, movement of “trans-humanists”, which set the task of creating a “post-human” individual, development of transpersonal psychology coming out against the Cartesian-Newtonian picture of the world, and formation of post-modernist reflection declaring the “death of man”.

Modern discussions on human nature actualize the problem of anthropodicy. Today the very task of justification of man as a special kind of being proves to be topical.

The book presents a variety of philosophical doctrines related to comprehension of the phenomenon of man. The authors show the birth of the philosophy of man in the philosophy of the antiquity and development of philosophical anthropology in the 18th century. Attention is paid to philosophical anthropology as a special philosophical trend that arose in the beginning of the 20th century. It was not so much a separate philosophical discipline (in the form, in which it was initially substantiated by O.Kasmann) as a philosophical conception resting on the works by M. Sheler. Philosophical anthropologists (A.Gehlen, H.Plessner, and others) brought back Kant’s idea to embrace real human existence in all its integrity, to determine the place and attitude of man to the world around. The book also presents social and religious anthropology, special attention is paid to recent anthropological conceptions.
